Commander

COLONEL JAIMIE L HENSON

Col. Henson is honored and excited to serve as Kentucky Wing (KYWG) Commander. She brings with her a lengthy and distinguished career in both Civil Air Patrol and Delta Airlines. She is a hands-on, team-oriented leader with over 40 years of experience. Her areas of expertise include leadership, organization, communication (both verbal and written), safety, conflict management, and teaching/training.

She has achieved qualifications in all three Civil Air Patrol mission areas—Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services and has earned multiple Master and Senior specialty track ratings. Her recognition and awards are numerous and include the following: Air Force Organizational Excellence, Exceptional Service, Meritorious Service, National Commander’s Commendation (3 awards), Wing Commander’s Commendation (5 awards), and many others.

In Civil Air Patrol she has served as KYWG Public Affairs Officer, Boone County Cadet Squadron Commander, Special Assistant to the Chief of Chaplains (National level), KY Group IV Commander, and KYWG Assistant Chief of Staff. In all of these positions, she has worked tirelessly to improve and expand membership, program efficiency and efficacy, and create new relationships within the community.

Her full-time occupation is as Flight Attendant/Purser with Delta Air Lines, where she supervises and directs 3 to 13 in-flight service personnel on both domestic and international routes. She is responsible for the safety of passengers and crew, medical/fire response, crew coordination, and conflict management/resolution.

Col. Henson holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Political Science from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, TX. Her volunteer service, outside of Civil Air Patrol, has included being a coach/referee, various director positions within her church, Boy Scouts Den Mother, and Girl Scouts Troop Leader. She founded and continues to serve in Quilters for Comfort: a collaboration with 24 plus women from various backgrounds that provide queen-size quilts and Bibles to families who have lost everything to fire or natural disaster. She is an active member of Bugles Across America, a group that provides live-performance TAPS for military funerals, memorials, and other special events.

She and her husband Richard (a Major in the Civil Air Patrol) have been married 35 years, have two grandchildren, and reside in Independence, Kentucky.

Her vision for KYWG is to build on the strong legacy of former commanders and the commitment of so many outstanding members, and to ensure the Civil Air Patrol KYWG is always ready to serve our communities, save lives, and shape futures.
